Roehampton, UK – Mia Slama’s journey in the Junior Wimbledon qualifying event was marked by both triumph and challenge. Her initial victory over Victoria Barros(#52 ITF) , the top-seeded player and rising star from Brazil, showcased Mia’s resilience and skill on the famed grass courts.

The match was a tense battle, culminating in a thrilling third set tiebreaker, that Mia clinched 10-6 after a closely contested 6-4, 3-6 first and second set. With only one service break each, both players demonstrated a high level of play and determination, making Mia’s win all the more impressive.

However, the road to Wimbledon proved arduous as Mia faced off against Shiho Tsujioka of Japan (#76 ITF) in the final match of the qualifying rounds. Despite her earlier triumph, Mia struggled against Tsujioka’s formidable game, particularly on the grass courts that require precise timing and adaptation to the cold, damp conditions. The match ended with a straight-set victory over Mia with a score of 6-3, 6-3.

While Mia fell short of securing her spot in the Championships, which she has competed in for the last 2 years, her performance against top-tier opponents like Victoria Barros and Shiho Tsujioka highlights her potential and determination on the international junior circuit. As she continues to develop her skills and gain experience in elite competitions,  Slama remains a promising talent to watch in the world of junior tennis.
